Germany’s young handball players started with a hard-won victory in the U21 World Cup in Poland.

The team around coach Martin Heuberger prevailed in Kielce against Serbia 30:29 (14:12) and thus took a first step towards successful title defense. Eight players from the 2023 winning team are back.

In a wild final phase, Linus Kutz from the THW Kiel scored 3:21 minutes before the end of the last goal, after which both teams gave their chances. The best German thrower was a circular runner Jan Schmidt from the second division club TSV Bayer Dormagen with ten goals, Kutz scored five times.

The German U21 continues against Switzerland on Thursday and on Saturday against Tunisia (both 9 p.m./Dyn).
