In his own words, U2 singer Bono doesn’t really like the name of his band. “In our minds, it was like the spy plane, it was… a submarine, it was futuristic,” the 61-year-old told The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast.

But then it turned out that U2 (pronounced You Two or You Too, in German “You too”) implied “this kind of consent”. “No, I don’t like that name. I still don’t really like the name,” stressed Bono, whose real name is Paul David Hewson.

They then kept the name on the advice of their first manager, who said it would look good on T-shirts.

Not only was the band name uncomfortable for him today, but also his voice, Bono continued. When asked about the debut album “Boy” (1980), he said: “The band sounds incredible.” However, he finds his voice strained.
