The Tynaarlo city council will receive a new party. Tynaarlo Municipal Interests is going together with the current largest party Leefbaar Tynaarlo. They will immediately continue under the name Leefbaar-Municipal Interests.

To this end, it was decided yesterday in a simultaneous members’ meeting. “The bigger you are, the better you can distribute the tasks and more importantly: in this way you have more than more people who are in the capillaries of the municipality. People who hear what is going on and how people think,” said Alderman and candidate leader Jurryt Vellinga.

Leefbaar Tynaarlo is the largest party in the Tynaarlo city council with five seats. Municipal interests has one seat, but is the oldest local party. It was founded in 1946 in the then municipality of Eelde.

The joint group is now growing to six seats, but the merger means more than that according to Vellinga: “There are good people behind Jacob van Gelder (party leader Gemeentebelangen, ed.), They are also added. This way we can do the work better and better distribute.”

The combined name was chosen to honor the history of both parties.

Both parties had been working together in the city council for a long time. “We were able to find it good in terms of views and the relationship was built on good confidence. We are very enthusiastic and toasted it yesterday,” said De Vellinga.

Whether Vellinga will be the face of Liveable municipalities during the elections, it still needs to be officially decided. This happens in a general meeting that takes place in a few weeks. He is currently the only candidate.

The municipal elections will take place on March 18, 2026.
