It concerns a 32-year-old Swiss woman and a 48-year-old German woman who were part of a group of fifteen paratroopers.
After they collided, the Swiss lost consciousness. Her parachute opened automatically, but during her fall she hit a high-voltage cable and fell into the Oude Rijn. Two swimmers brought the woman to shore, where she was handed over to emergency services. Police say she suffered life-threatening injuries.
High voltage cable
The 48-year-old woman also briefly lost consciousness after the collision. She was still able to open her parachute herself, but she also hit the high voltage and fell from about ten meters. She was taken to hospital with serious injuries, but their injuries are not life-threatening, police said.
The group jumped from a plane at an altitude of 4,000 meters. The women could not yet be questioned about what exactly caused the collision. Both were only partially conscious after the accident and could not provide any information about what had happened.
Seizure
The Feldkirch Public Prosecutor’s Office has ordered the seizure of the parachutes and harnesses. The investigation into the exact cause of the accident is still ongoing, police said.
