The police arrested a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy from the municipality of Land van Cuijk for arson on Friday and Saturday. On Tuesday, a fire broke out in an apartment complex on Lavendel in Cuijk. A gas pipe broke due to the heat. Some of the building’s residents had to leave their homes temporarily.
On Tuesday afternoon, the fire brigade responded to a fire in a basement of the apartment complex. The fire caused extensive smoke development that also spread to the apartments above. The gas pipe that was damaged had to be repaired urgently.
The fire brigade and police investigated the fire and it is likely arson. A witness saw two boys running away and a bottle of flammable liquid was found. The police then started an investigation.
Through forensic investigation, neighborhood research and camera images, the two minor suspects were eventually identified. They are in custody and are still being interrogated about their possible role in the fire.
