Two thousand PSV fans duped by cancellation of the game against Arsenal

About two thousand PSV supporters have been duped for hundreds of euros by the canceled game against Arsenal. The London police are short of capacity due to the funeral ceremonies surrounding the death of Queen Elizabeth. The only question is that the fans will be reimbursed for the costs incurred for travel and accommodation.

PSV indicates that they have sold about two thousand tickets for the canceled game against Arsenal on Thursday. The club itself does not yet know what exactly will happen with the tickets sold for the Europa League match in London. “We are still waiting for information from UEFA. If we have it, we will immediately communicate it to the fans,” said spokesman Thijs Slegers.

“This is very sad for a large group of supporters.”

At the PSV supporters’ association, they already see the mood for many fans. “This is very sad for a very large group that has arranged their own transport and accommodation. The question is whether they will be reimbursed for those costs,” says chairman Rob Bogaarts.

“The damage is not too bad for us, we had only arranged a bus trip for 160 supporters and those tickets are compensated,” explains Bogaarts. The fact that so few people travel through the supporters’ association is actually a happy accident. Due to a shortage of drivers and vehicles, only two buses were available. “We are going to offer more bus trips when the new date is known. That may be a small advantage.”

“I lost five hundred euros.”

One of the injured supporters who arranged a trip themselves is Theo Meeuwissen. “I lost five hundred euros because I would go up and down with my sons.” He had booked a flight and bus trip to and from the stadium. Rebooking is not an option according to Theo. “I have now approached various authorities and now have to wait.”

The cancellation is also ‘an expensive joke’ for Kevin Swinkels. “I can only transfer the flight via Ryanair in someone else’s name, not rebook it.” It doesn’t stop there because he had also booked a hotel and a train and bus trip from the airport to the heart of London.

“It’s pointless to go for me.”

The damage for Kevin alone is more than three hundred euros. “My mates still go to London, but for me it’s pointless.” The supporter also had days off for PSV’s game against Arsenal.

Because the journey can continue as usual and the accommodation is also accessible, many people think that they cannot rely on their insurance. “Normally, cancellation insurance only applies to private matters, so there is little chance that it will be covered,” says the Dutch Association of Insurers.

“A composite trip is remembered with us.”

The cancellation insurance of the ANWB does provide for the situation in which many PSV supporters find themselves. “With us, such a composite trip is covered. So if people have arranged a flight, accommodation and those tickets themselves, they are insured against such a cancellation”, the ANWB says.

The ANWB emphasizes that they cannot speak for other insurers. The only question is how many supporters have taken out such cancellation insurance for a football trip.
