On Sunday around 7 p.m., four inspectors boarded the tram at the Vosseslag stop in De Haan for a ticket check. When a group of young people from Brussels could not produce a valid ticket, the situation escalated and an aggressive brawl broke out. Three of the four suspects soon fled.

A suspect, a man (18) from Ninove in East Flanders, was stopped by De Lijn employees and arrested. He behaved unruly, resulting in two officers being injured and one officer incapacitated. The four inspectors and the tram driver were also taken to hospital.

“In the meantime, a second and third suspect were also arrested,” the West Flanders public prosecutor’s office said. “These are two 19-year-old men from the area of Halle and Sint-Pieters-Leeuw in Flemish Brabant. One of them was arrested last night in his home, the other suspect was arrested in Brussels. A fourth suspect is still being traced.”
