The investigation is still in development, so details have not yet been released.




Two groups that are in conflict with each other sought the confrontation around 8 p.m. A first stabbing or skirmish happened at the station. A second confrontation, in which stabbing injuries were inflicted, took place in the Klokstraat. No information is currently given about the theme around which the conflict took place. Mayor Wim Dries (CD&V) of Genk was able to confirm on Saturday evening that two incidents had happened in the city, but emphasized that the local police are short on time to carry out the necessary investigations and trace those involved. There is an ongoing collaboration with the public prosecutor’s office. The CARMA police are also informed that more information may not be given until Sunday.

No emergency services would have been involved at Genk station, but an ambulance and a mosquito team did arrive on the scene in Klokstraat to administer first care to a damaged person. The person was taken to hospital in an unknown condition.
