The fire started this afternoon shortly before 5 p.m. in a shed on the site of a house on the Kanaaldijk in Landsmeer. The barn has been completely destroyed by the fire, says a spokesperson for the Zaanstreek-Waterland Security Region. Shortly after 6 p.m., the fire brigade reported that the fire from the shed was skipped to the roof of the house in the yard.

The fire brigade is currently extinguishing the fire in the roof of the house. The entire street is closed to give the emergency services the space. Around a quarter to eight the fire brigade announced that the fire was under control.

Two local residents who helped extinguish to the hospital

Six people were checked on the spot by ambulance personnel because of the breathing of smoke. These are the residents of the building where the fire is currently located, two police officers and two local residents who have tried to extinguish the fire. The local residents were taken to the hospital for further treatment, the spokesperson reports.

In two adjacent houses, the fire brigade has carried out measurements to check whether the residents can return safely to their home. The residents of these homes can now return to their house.

The Kanaaldijk is completely closed to traffic due to the fire brigade and ambulance vehicles. It is not clear how the fire in the barn could arise next to the house.
