Two intoxicated in the fire of an inhabited ship in Vilassar de Mar

Two people have been slightly intoxicated when a ship in Vilassar de Mar (Barcelona) caught fire that was partially enabled as a home, as reported by the Generalitat Fire Department.

The fire started shortly before 1:00 p.m., for reasons that are being investigated, in a loft of the affected warehouse, located on Via Octaviana in the town of Maresme.

As a result of the flames, two people who resided in the ship, which had been illegally used as housing (it lacked a certificate of qualification) and in which 17 people had resided for a long time, had to be treated for mild poisoning due to smoke inhalation. “as if it were a shared flat”, according to TV-3.

The space was divided into three zones, one of which has completely collapsed. The nave had a ground floor and two floors divided into three bodies. The plant has completely collapsed and the presence of the municipal architect has been activated. For safety reasons, the firefighters have basically worked from the outside, and when they have done it inside, they have done it from the ends of the ship.

Fifteen crews from the Fire Brigade of the Generalitat have intervened in the tasks of extinguishing the fire, which has been brought under control around 5:30 p.m. After controlling the flames, eight crews have continued soaking the area, given that there were still many hot spots under the rubble. It is expected that two crews will remain at the site throughout the night.

The City Council of Vilassar de Mar (Maresme) has reported in a statement that it had no record that people “with an irregular leasing regime” lived in the burned-out ship. It also stresses that the Local Police has no record of any complaint in this regard.

Given this fact, the council has announced that it will initiate an investigation, and that if “one or more crimes” against the owner of the ship “by taking advantage of the situation of vulnerability of the people who lived”, were revealed from the proceedings, as popular accusation. Of the 17 people who “in principle” lived on the ship, eight have been relocated. The rest have opted for their own means.
