Around 4.35 pm the Westhoek fire brigade received a call for an explosion in the Geluwestraat in Zonnebeke. On the spot it turned out to be an explosion in a home, presumably caused by a gas boiler. The explosion was accompanied by severe smoke development and fire.
The fire brigade quickly had the fire under control, but the house was seriously damaged. Two residents were injured and were transferred to the Jan Yperman Hospital in Ypres for further care.
