The emergency services received the report of the stabbing around 5:45 p.m. According to a police spokesperson, the first victim had a deep wound in his thigh. The second victim was also injured in the leg. It is unknown what condition they are in.
The suspect was arrested just after 6 p.m. The police have seized a knife. An investigation is underway into how the stabbing could have happened.
Stabbing in July 2025
A stabbing also took place in this asylum center in July last year. Two people were injured.
This stabbing caused a wave of reactions on social media. Mayor Anja Schouten and asylum councilor Christian Schouten announced in a joint statement that they were ‘shocked by this drastic event’.
Research into safety in asylum seekers’ centers
Together with the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA), an investigation was started into safety at the reception location for asylum seekers and status holders.
