Two goals in added time: Spectacular draw between St. Pauli and Paderborn

Status: 08/27/2022 3:00 p.m

SC Paderborn missed an away win at FC St. Pauli in the 2nd Bundesliga. The final phase at the Millerntor in particular was tough.

Four goals, two on each side, a missed penalty and a goal disallowed by the video referee: There was plenty of spectacle in the 2-2 (0-1) between FC St. Pauli and SC Paderborn. The SCP, who had already looked like the winner, remains at the top of the table for the time being. FC St. Pauli, which has been acting awkwardly for a long time, is stuck in the middle of the table.

Complicated attacks by FC St. Pauli

Both teams were already looking for a way forward in the early stages, but were rarely determined. FC St. Pauli had slightly better opportunities, but the hosts didn’t become really dangerous at first. Hamburg usually made it too complicated around the opposing penalty area.

And so it happened, as it often happens: Paderborn, who had been inconspicuous offensively until then, successfully countered just before the break. Marvin Pieringer completed the 1:0 for the guests with a shot from twelve meters (44th).

Paqarada misses a penalty

The scorer then opened the second half with a crossbar hit (48th). And shortly thereafter, the guests gave FC St. Pauli the opportunity to equalize. Marcel Hoffmeier stepped on the foot of the pressing Manolis Saliakas in the penalty area. But the Hamburg captain Leart Paqarada fails with his casual penalty shot by Paderborn goalkeeper Jannik Huth (50th).

St. Pauli keeper Dennis Smarsch then kept his team in the game with three saves within a few seconds. The Kiezkicker then tried furious and therefore mostly headless attacks. All the shots, crosses, corners and headers were cleared away by the Paderborn team, sometimes more, sometimes less confidently.

Conteh scores twice for a goal

Then, in the 83rd minute, substitute Etienne Amenyido was nine meters in front of the goal after a cross from Lukas Daschner and still managed to put the ball in the Paderborn goal. The euphoria in the stands was still at its peak when Paderborn’s Sirlord Conteh dampened it with the supposed 2:1 for the guests. But the calibrated line of the VAR in Cologne revealed a wafer-thin offside position (85th). The hit didn’t count.

So Conteh tried again. And this time there was nothing wrong with Felix Platte’s long pass and Conteh’s goal (90+2). However, a header from David Nemeth after a corner secured a lucky point for FC St. Pauli just a minute after the guests’ supposed winner.
