The Indy 500 are one of the world’s most legendary car racing. However, there are two serious accidents in the qualification for the 109th edition.
Two serious accidents overshadowed the qualification for the legendary 500 miles from Indianapolis on Saturday. Both the US racing driver Colton Herta and New Zealand Marcus Armstrong got away with a horror.
Herta and Armstrong suffered both in curve one that became a treacherous passage due to unpredictable wind conditions. The wind, which was shielded through the stands in other places, suddenly hit the vehicles there and with force, which posed problems with several drivers. Many in this section had to reduce the pace to avoid similar scenarios.
There had already been serious accidents in training. The drivers also remained unharmed there. Herta said: “Fortunately, these accidents look much worse these days than they feel – without saying that it felt good.”
His car had crashed into the outer wall in a curve, rolled over and had slipped over the route in the middle of a spark of sparks along the gang. Herta was able to continue with a replacement car after an examination and even managed the direct qualification for the race next weekend. New Zealand Armstrong was also unharmed in his accident.
The American Josef Newgarden showed in top form, who was the first driver in the history of the legendary Indy 500 for the third time in a row. The defending champion landed in third place in the first qualification. The fastest was the Spaniard Alex Palou, who won three of the last four Indycar championships and four of the first five races this season.
