The Twitter account of the Eindhovens Dagblad was hacked on Sunday evening. That happened just before the end of the Ajax-PSV match. The account now continues under the name Eindhovens Dagblad (AJAX FANS), with the club logo of Ajax as profile picture. In addition, the hackers call for voting for political parties PVV and Forum for Democracy.
With Tweets like “Like if PSV has to be dissolved”, it seemed for a moment as if the newspaper had become a fan of the Amsterdam football club. But it soon became clear that it was a hack. In more than two hours, the hackers posted about a hundred Tweets on the newspaper’s account.
Although the new name suggests otherwise, the hackers do not seem to be fans of the Amsterdam football club. “Not an Ajax fan”, the hackers respond even if someone suggests that they are frustrated football supporters.
“Just having a little fun.”
The hackers themselves write on Twitter that they ‘just’ want to have fun. “We could also use this account to scam people. But we won’t go that far… Just having a little fun!” The hackers also refer to a Telegram account.

According to Metro news the hackers identify themselves as ‘TH Netherlands’ and the loss of Ajax was not the reason to hack the account. “We came across the account by chance and are not a fan of football in general. We thought it would be fun,” the hackers told the news site. According to the hackers, the security of the account was not good, making it easy to take over.
“Any sane person can see that this cannot be ours.”
Editor-in-chief Joris Roes says that work is underway to restore access. The editors also emphasize via their own site that messages on the Twitter account do not come from the editors. “In the meantime, users can also report the profile and indicate that the profile has been hacked,” the newspaper reports.
Roes tells the ANP news agency that it is obvious to the followers that the account has been hacked. “Any sane person who now reads what is being distributed via the Twitter account will immediately see that this cannot come from us.” He does not yet dare to say how long it will take before the hack is undone.
