Twenty fines for those attending lockdown parties in Downing Street

London police have imposed 20 fines on those attending the lockdown parties at 10 Downing Street, the official residence of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. They will be punished for violating the corona rules that were in force at the time. The police have not released the names of the ticket holders, it appears from Tuesday published statement† Johnson’s office promised, according to the BBC to come out sooner, if Johnson himself were to be ticketed.

At least 12 drinks and parties took place at 10 Downing Street between May 2020 and April 2021, while the United Kingdom had imposed restrictions on, among other things, the number of visitors that could gather due to the corona pandemic. Johnson’s presence on several of these occasions sparked outrage and debate in the British House of Commons. At the end of January, a damning report was published by British senior official Sue Gray, which spoke of “difficult behavior” and failing “leadership and judgment”. Although Johnson was also criticized by his own party, he was able to stay on for the time being.

According to the London police, the number of fines could rise, but could take some time due to the “large amount” of investigative material that has yet to be studied. It is not known how high the fines will be. The police also do not provide information about the dates when the violations took place.
