A passer-by discovered the traffic accident along Ter Doeststraat around 5.15 am. A vehicle had clearly crashed into an electricity pole, causing the pole to break. The emergency services went to the scene, but all help came too late for the driver. The 29-year-old Bruges resident turned out to have already died.
The Bruges local police are now investigating the precise circumstances of the accident. It is not yet clear how and when the victim ended up with his car next to the road. According to initial findings, no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
