For the second night in a row, hundreds of people took to the streets in Northern Ireland. Twelve police officers were injured after the riots, which come in response to a bloody attack in Belfast on Monday evening. Sixteen people were arrested, the BBC reports.
Major demonstrations were again announced in large parts of Northern Ireland on Wednesday evening. Protests also took place at migrant hotels in Scotland. The demonstrators again set fire to cars and belongings. Rioters in black clothing are also said to have smashed the sidewalk with hammers and thrown projectiles at officers.
Sixteen people were arrested. An 18-year-old man has been charged with throwing a firebomb at officers in Carrickfergus. The officers were injured. Another rioter also threw a firebomb in Portadown and caught fire.
27 people homeless
On Tuesday evening, several houses were set on fire by groups of masked men. This would have left 27 people homeless, a member of the British House of Lords reported.
The riots come after a Sudanese immigrant attacked another man in Belfast on Monday evening. The victim lost an eye after the 30-year-old Sudanese climbed on top of him and stabbed him in the face and neck.
Tougher approach
The Northern Irish government wants to intensify the crackdown on illegal immigrants in the country, a source reports to the BBC. Illegal immigrants must be detected, detained and deported more quickly.
The Ministry of the Interior reports that almost 1,000 illegal migrants have been deported in the past year.
