Recommendations of the Editorial team
Die Toten Hosen, one of the most influential German bands, let us accompany them in the rehearsal room while recording their last album. Director Eric Friedler filmed Campino, Andi, Breiti and Kuddel composing and recording “Drink up, we have to go!”
“Die Toten Hosen – The Last Album” wants to show the band structure in all its facets: connection, but also friction, the pressure under which we work, and the question of how to deal with a project like this when it comes to an end. Campino thinks out loud about what it means to end something with attitude. Kuddel, on the other hand, openly struggles with the idea that this chapter should actually be the last.
At the same time, the film team accompanies the band on tour. The concerts should appear in a new light: every performance carries with it the possibility of being a conclusion. Over the years, this idea becomes less abstract and more reality.
The 90-minute documentary will be available in the ARD media library from May 20, 2026 and will be shown on May 23 at 11:25 p.m. on Erste, following the DFB Cup final. It can be seen in advance in selected cinemas on May 19th.
Bonus album “Everything has to go!” with 25 cover songs
Frontman Campino describes the decision like this: “In the rehearsal room someone suddenly shouted: ‘Let’s make one last album!’ We don’t know exactly who it was – but the enthusiasm was there straight away.” The band decided to “let it all out again”.
In addition to the main album, the bonus album “Alles muss raus!” is released. Die Toten Hosen, together with artist friends, interpret 25 cover versions of songs that have shaped them. The band sees the project as a gift to themselves and their fans, and as a musical bow to long-time companions.
Cover artwork by Andreas Gursky
