From the next 2025/26 season, the Bundesliga conference will be broadcast on Saturday afternoons for the first time by DAZN – a rights package previously held by Sky. But that’s not enough. Alice Mascia, the head of the streaming provider for German-speaking countries, wants to further revolutionize the market and bring football broadcasts even closer to the fans. One of their suggestions: additional microphones on the substitute benches.
Mascia told the “Bild” newspaper: “That’s right at the top. Of course, I understand that not everyone will immediately agree to the wishes. However, I hope that we can agree that football can learn from other sports how to do it that connects with the fans and offers them something.” Many young fans have a closer bond with individual players than with the clubs. This is also because they get much more personal insights via social media. “As soon as the players are back at their club, the stop will be made there. We have to find a mutual understanding with the clubs that this is not about doing us a favor, but about offering our own fans more and so on “ultimately to benefit yourself,” Mascia continued. However, the DFL would still have to agree to this request.
