TV debate between candidates for British premiership suddenly interrupted: images show Truss clapping hands over face and saying “Oh my God” | Abroad

The debate between the two Conservative leaders Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss was in full swing when the boom was suddenly heard. A visibly startled and concerned Truss—who had just started speaking—stepped immediately from behind her lectern, toward the source of the sound. Then the image disappeared.

Initially, a short message was posted on the website of organizers ‘The Sun’ and TalkTV: “We apologize for interrupting this program,” it read.

TalkTV has meanwhile reported on Twitter that presenter Kate McCann passed out during the broadcast. “She’s fine, but we’re not going to continue the debate on medical advice. We apologize to our viewers and listeners,” the message read.

“Everyone is fine,” confirms presenter Ian Collins. “That’s the good news. Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss are still in the studio. They speak to readers and answer their questions.”

Kate McCann was the only presenter during tonight’s debate after her co-host Harry Cole had to cancel because he had contracted a corona infection. McCann has been a political editor at TalkTV since January. Before that she worked for Sky News and the ‘Daily Telegraph’, among others.

Both Truss and Sunak have already wished McCann well via social media.
