Turkish second division side Eyupspor have used the special transfer window opened by FIFA in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and almost doubled their squad value with two new signings. The Luxembourg national player Olivier Thill (25) is coming from Vorskla Poltava to the promotion candidate in Istanbul until the end of the season (currently 5th – to the table of the 1st league). His compatriot Gerson Rodrigues (26), also presented on Wednesday, is under contract with Dynamo Kyiv until 2024.
With a market value of 3 million and 1.8 million euros respectively, Rodrigues and Thill are by far the most valuable players in the Turkish lower house. Their arrival also ensures that Eyüpspor, who were only promoted from the 3rd division last summer, now takes the top spot in the ranking of the most valuable squads in the league (12.13 million), ahead of Samsunspor (10.08 million).
For Eyüpspor, the transfers mean that it has to part with two foreign professionals at the same time. In the 1st league, no more than eight non-Turkish players are allowed in the squad. The contract with the Romanian veteran Bogdan Stancu (34) was terminated on Wednesday.
