After four years at LOSC Lille, Zeki Celik (25) is drawn to AS Roma. The Italians announced on Tuesday that the Turkey international has signed a contract until 2026. Celik joins coach José Mourinho’s team for a fee of €7m.
According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Lille have secured a 15 per cent resale stake. Transfermarkt can confirm this number. The fact that Roma will sign the right-back for just €7m is due to the fact that Celik’s contract in France was only valid until 2023. “The fact that Roma are one of the most important clubs in Europe and the presence of a world-class coach like Mourinho made our decision easy,” Celik adviser Fazil Özdemir from the agency “FF Sport” told Transfermarkt.
Celik 22 million behind number 1: The most valuable Turks worldwide
After Mourinho added €127m to the Roma squad in his first season, Celik is his first signing of the summer for a fee. Previously, goalkeeper Mile Svilar (22) was brought in from Benfica and midfielder Nemanja Matić (33) from Manchester United – it is the third time Mourinho has signed Matic, with whom he worked for Chelsea and the Red Devils.
Lille makes transfer win with Celik – Increased market value to 18m
LOSC Lille acquired Celik from Istanbulspor for €2.5m in 2018 – as of today, his market value is €18m, making him one of the top 40 right-backs in the world. Celik played 148 games for the northern French, in which he was directly involved in 22 goals.
