Tupac Shakur: New search warrant issued in murder case

27 years after 2Pac’s murder, there may now be a new lead.

On September 7, 1996, Tupac Shakur was walking down Las Vegas Boulevard with Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight when a car pulled up next to them and opened fire. Shakur was hit four times and died in hospital six days later as a result of the gunshot wounds.

There has not been an arrest in this case in over two decades. However, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed on Tuesday (July 18) that a search warrant had been issued in Henderson, Nevada, in the Tupac Shakur case. More details were not publicly disclosed at this time.

Suge Knight, who survived the attack with minor injuries, was sentenced to 28 years in prison for manslaughter in October 2018 after running over a man with a truck and killing him. Knight previously claimed that he was the actual target of the 1996 attack on Shakur and that his ex-wife Sharitha and Death Row Records security chief Reggie Wright Jr. were behind it. His attorney also said in an affidavit that Knight had known “for many years” that the two named individuals were the actual perpetrators and were going to prison as a result of 2Pac’s death.

Reggie Wright Jr. publicly denied the allegations. But a final clarification of the case and the reasons for the shots at Shakur and Knight’s car and their occupants are still unclear today.
