Tulip fanatics on a trek through Central Drenthe: ‘Glad that the weather is allowed’

It is very busy between the flower bulb fields in Central Drenthe. After two years of absence, the Tulip Night of Splendor continues again. Visitors then drive past illuminated fields filled with colorful tulips.

The tour was conceived by the flower bulb growers of Drenthe. From half past eight in the evening, visitors can start the journey, then it starts to get dark and the floodlights come on. “With the low sun and the lighting on the tulips you create a beautiful effect,” says organizer Dieneke Joling. “Perfect for taking spectacular photos.”

Joling came up with the idea for the tour when she was working on lighting in her garden. “Then I thought, it’s also beautiful if you illuminate tulip fields at night. That’s where it all started.”

The organization has nothing to complain about the number of visitors. It is even so busy at several tulip fields that cars are stuck in traffic. Not only adults come to take a look, the young generation is also enthusiastic.

“We take a ride along all the fields to take pictures. The different colors of all the tulips are especially beautiful,” says a young lady. Another visitor took her children on a holiday trip. “They are very enthusiastic, especially now that they can stay up a little longer,” she laughs.

Between the rows of tulips are some young people taking pictures. “A few weeks ago we already went to pick a tulip. We liked it, that’s why we are now driving this tulip route,” says a lady. “And of course to take some photos for Instagram. Also not unimportant.”
