A TUI Boeing 737-800 returned to Schiphol after take-off this morning after the tail of the aircraft touched the runway. A spokesperson for TUI Netherlands informs NH News about this. The Dutch Safety Board (OVV) has traveled to Schiphol to investigate the so-called ‘tailstrike’.

The device, which belongs to sister company TUI Belgium, was on its way to Gran Canaria. According to the spokesman, the cause of the tailstrike is not yet known, but she is taking into account, among other things, the shifting of the load or the pilots accelerating too quickly.

The Boeing departed from Schiphol’s Polderbaan at around 10:30 am. After it was noticed that the tail had touched the runway, the aircraft flew two circles over South Holland and returned to Schiphol. At 11.15 am the aircraft landed on the Aalsmeerbaan.

This afternoon to Gran Canaria

The passengers were disembarked at Schiphol. Their suitcases will follow later. A replacement aircraft and crew are being sought so that they can still take a flight to Gran Canaria this afternoon.
