Possible Prömel replacement

Werder Bremen’s life insurance Jens Stage has become the focus of a Bundesliga competitor. As “Bild” reports, the 29-year-old midfielder is on the list at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. The Kraichgauers need reinforcements due to the impending departure of Grischa Prömel (31) to Stuttgart – and Stage is among the favorites for the successor. An offer from TSG is not yet available.

In Hoffenheim, Stage would be able to participate in international business. With three match days to go, the Sinsheimers are tied for fifth place with VfB Stuttgart, who are four goals better, and therefore still have the best chance of qualifying for the first Champions League since the premier class premiere in 2018/19.
Stage moved from FC Copenhagen to Bremen in 2022 for 4 million euros and delivered 26 goals and 13 assists in 122 appearances for the Weser club. The Dane scored in double figures this season and last. In 2025/26 he scored 27.8 percent of all Werder goals (36) – only the quartet Haris Tabakovic, Harry Kane, Deniz Undav and Nadiem Amiri have an even higher proportion of their own team’s goals.
If those responsible in Bremen have their way, Stage will stay with the current twelfth place in the table and will not get out of his contract, which is valid until 2028. Sports director Clemens Fritz said: “We are a club that finances itself through transfer income and of course I also know that we have to generate income in the summer because we haven’t been able to do that very well in the last one or two years. It is not our plan to let Jens go. We are also planning with him for the coming season.”
Coach Daniel Thioune commented: “Jens is very valuable to us.” Stage is a leadership figure that other players can look up to. “Jens is a difference player, not only for us, but also in the Bundesliga.” The veteran, who will turn 30 in November, last extended his contract with SVW in November 2024. Since his arrival at Werder, Stage has increased his market value from 3.5 million to 14 million euros.
