US President Donald Trump wants to talk to India about trade relationships – despite the punitive tariffs raised by the USA for oil transactions in the country with Russia.

The negotiations to remove trade barriers are continued, the Republican wrote on his Truth Social platform. He is happy to talk to his “very good friend”, the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the coming weeks.

Most recently, the United States had occupied India with punitive tariffs to put pressure on Russia in the Ukraine War. So far, India is the only trading partner of Russia that the United States deals with tariffs in the context of the war. The United States collects additional tariffs of 25 percent on Indian products.

Trump had recently indicated his displeasure that Russia and India could increasingly turn to China. The background was a meeting of China’s head of state XI Jinping, Modi and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin at a Shanghai summit.
