Trump says he will turn himself in to Georgia jail at 1:30 a.m. on voter fraud case | Abroad

Trump has announced that he will report to a prison in the capital Atlanta. There, for the first time in American history, a police photo (‘mugshot’ in informal English, ed.) will be taken of a former president. The authorities thought that step was unnecessary in the three other criminal cases against Trump.

Supporters and opponents of the former president have already gathered at the prison, the Fulton County Jail, on Friday afternoon. The press is also present in large numbers. However, they are not allowed to enter the prison parking lot, where the press is normally spoken to, reports ‘The New York Times’.

The prison is “an overcrowded facility with a reputation for violence and neglect,” writes the AP news agency, adding that a federal investigation into conditions at the facility is ongoing.

According to US media, Trump has hired a new lawyer in connection with the charge of attempted voter fraud in the state of Georgia. Attorney Steve Sadow will replace previous attorney Drew Findling, CNN reported. According to the broadcaster, this has nothing to do with Findling’s past performance. Sadow is the best lawyer in Georgia.
