Trump was banned from Twitter after he was charged with sedition after the storming of the Capitol in Washington on January 6 last year. “I’m not going back to Twitter, I’m staying on Truth,” Trump told Fox News. The former president was referring to his own network Truth Social, which was launched in February. Trump says he will officially start his own account on the network in the next seven days.
The White House fears Elon Musk will give Trump access to Twitter again. The government is closely monitoring developments.
‘He’s a good man’
Twitter announced Monday that it agreed to the acquisition by Musk. The richest man on earth pays about 44 billion dollars (converted 41 billion euros) to take the company off the stock exchange.
With the acquisition, Musk says he wants to make Twitter a platform for freedom of expression. That freedom is the basis of a well-functioning democracy, Musk emphasizes in a statement. Trump said he is happy with the acquisition by Musk. “He will make improvements and he is a good man,” Trump said.
