Trump Must Post $200,000 Bail In Georgia Election Fraud Case And Report To Jail Thursday | Abroad

updateFormer President Donald Trump has agreed to a bail of $ 200,000 (more than € 183,000) to remain free as a suspect of election fraud in the US state of Georgia. This is evident from court documents that were viewed by news channel ‘CNN’ on Monday. Trump, meanwhile, has announced on his social medium Truth Social that he will report to the Fulton County jail on Thursday, where bail must be paid no later than Friday afternoon local time.

LOOK. Why has Trump been indicted again? Our reporter explains

Earlier today, Trump’s lawyers met with prosecutors in Fulton County, Atlanta, where the case is pending. Trump and the other suspects have until Friday afternoon to surrender to the judiciary. The former president has meanwhile announced on his social medium Truth Social that he will report to the prison in Fulton County on Thursday. “I am going to Atlanta, Georgia on Thursday to be ARRESTED by a far-left prosecutor,” the Republican billionaire wrote on his social medium.

The area around the prison will go into lockdown when Trump presents himself. Local police officers in Fulton County have already been threatened over the case against Trump, CNN reports.

Deposit agreement

Trump’s bail agreement includes a provision that Trump “will not take any action to intimidate any (…) co-defendant or witness in this case or to otherwise obstruct the course of justice.” And: “The above includes, but is not limited to, social media posts or reposting posts made by another person on social media.”

The indictment is the result of an investigation by Attorney General Fani Willis, who spent two years investigating whether former President Donald Trump and others broke the law. Among his eighteen co-defendants are prominent supporters such as former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani and former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows.

The case concerns election fraud in Georgia. After losing the 2020 presidential election, Trump tried to change the outcome in this state of Georgia. He allegedly instructed local authorities to “find 11,780 votes” so that he would still win there against his Democratic opponent Joe Biden. Georgia was one of the tipping states. Trump is therefore being charged with violation of election law in this case.

To this day, Trump refuses to admit that he lost the previous presidential election to Biden. Instead, Trump speaks of massive electoral fraud, without having provided any evidence for it.

The judge will decide on the date of the trial on August 28. Trump’s lawyers have requested that the trial not take place until April 2026, well after the November 2024 election. Federal prosecutor Jack Smith, on the other hand, wants the case to start on January 2, 2024.
