Trump most popular choice for president during conference

Former US President Donald Trump is currently the most popular choice to run on behalf of Republicans in the 2024 election, according to a poll conducted on the closing day of a conference of leading US conservatives, Conservative Political Action. Conference (CPAC), in Dallas.

99 percent of the 1,000 or so attendees support Trump, according to the poll. The former president is the first choice of 69 percent of those in attendance. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis follows with 24 percent of the vote. In a scenario where Trump would not run for election, DeSantis is the obvious choice with 65 percent of the vote. In that case, Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. be the voters’ second choice.

While the poll is unofficial, it provides an indication of current sentiment among Republican and conservative voters. Trump has not yet officially announced whether he will run again in the 2024 presidential election, but has regularly hinted at this. The Republican has said that he has already made a decision, but that he is not yet sure whether he will make an announcement before or after the midterm elections in November. During that midterm ballot, all 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives and 34 of the 100 seats in the United States Senate are contested.
