The United States has laid down the auto tariffs for imports from Europe to 15 percent.

This emerges from government documents published on Wednesday. The new customs applies retrospectively to August 1st.

Representatives of the United States had informed the European Union in August that they would reduce the tariffs from the then level of 27.5 percent if the EU redesigned tariffs to a number of US products. A corresponding law was brought in by Brussels, but the official confirmation of the United States has so far failed to materialize.

Exceptions for European aircraft and aircraft parts, generics as well as certain natural raw materials have now also been confirmed.
