Trump gets week to prove FBI ‘planted’ evidence during house search | Abroad

Former US President Donald Trump will have a “last chance” to show by September 30 what evidence the FBI would have “planted.” American media report that.

During the search of the Florida estate, investigators found information that, according to Trump, those investigators would have put there themselves. The former president and his lawyers have repeated that claim several times in recent weeks, without providing evidence.

An arbitrator appointed by the court last week, former judge Raymond Dreerie, is now giving Trump one very last chance to indicate exactly which documents are involved. By Monday, the government must provide copies of all unclassified items to Trump’s lawyers.

Next, Trump’s team must prepare a statement listing which documents were deposited in Mar-a-Lago by someone else. Dreerie must review the more than 11,000 government documents, some of which have the highest level of secrecy.

Research can continue

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Justice is allowed to continue with the investigation into the secret documents that were found during the aforementioned search. A judge had already decided that on Wednesday.

The criminal investigation includes whether confidential papers were withheld and whether an attempt was made to thwart a federal investigation. Both offenses are punishable. According to Trump, he has ensured that the documents in question are no longer secret during his presidency, but according to the court no evidence has been found.
