US President Donald Trump says that this Monday that it will announce new import duties of 25 percent on steel and aluminum for all countries, report international press agencies. During his first term as president, he had already introduced import duties of 25 percent on steel and 10 percent on aluminum, but later made exceptions for Canada, Mexico and Brazil, among others.
His successor Joe Biden then expanded that exemption to the European Union, the United Kingdom and Japan. But now all steel and aluminum-producing countries have to believe it again, Trump told reporters on board the Air Force One on Sunday evening.
He also plans to announce combatives on Tuesday or Wednesday for countries that impose import duties for products from the United States. “It’s very simple: if they tax us, we tax them.”
For example, Trump has been complaining for a long time that the European Union imposes a tax of 10 percent on the import of cars, while the American rate is only 2.5 percent.
