Indirekt görüşmeler Katar’da devam ediyor. Trump, İran’ın nükleerleşmesinin iyi ilerlediğini belirtti.
Representatives from the USA and Iran have convened in Doha, Qatar, for indirect discussions regarding maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and plans for a lasting ceasefire. President Donald Trump expressed optimistic views about US-Iran relations and the recent talks.
Trump remarked that the denuclearization of Iran is progressing well. “We are getting along very well,” he added.
Discussions Led by Kushner and Witkoff
Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff are engaging in preparatory talks with Qatar’s Prime Minister, however, they are not participating in the negotiations themselves. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bakaei mentioned that Iran’s delegation in Doha is headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Kasem Gharibabadi. Qatar is mediating the conflict alongside Pakistan.
Gharibabadi emphasized that there are “no plans for negotiations with the American side at any level” in the coming days. This statement contradicted an earlier announcement by President Trump regarding potential direct talks in Qatar.
On Tuesday, Witkoff and Kushner met with Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, discussing negotiations with Iran and the situation in Lebanon.
Incidents in the Strait of Hormuz
Meanwhile, an Iranian report highlighted that a foreign cargo ship has run aground in the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel had ventured into shallow waters outside the routes designated by Iranian authorities, according to state media.
State media reiterated a warning from the Revolutionary Guard that ships must only use the corridor south of the Iranian island of Larak. According to Tehran’s leadership, this corridor is the only approved entry and exit for passage through the strait.
Mutual Attacks Over the Weekend
In previous talks in Switzerland, the USA and Iran agreed on a roadmap for a peace agreement in the region. A detailed and lasting agreement aimed at ending the Iran war, initiated by the USA and Israel, is to be negotiated within 60 days.
However, over the weekend, the USA and Iran engaged in mutual military attacks, each accusing the other of violating the existing ceasefire.
