The emergency services were alerted around 5.10 am to a serious accident on Roeselarestraat between Zarren and Staden. A car and truck collided head-on. The car was thrown and hit a tree. The truck came to a stop on the shoulder of the bicycle path. Further investigation must reveal exactly how the accident could have happened.
The driver of the car had to be freed from the wreckage by the fire brigade and was taken to hospital with serious injuries. The truck driver suffered minor injuries from the accident.
