After four and a half years, the Newcastle United chapter ends for Kieran Trippier. As the Magpies announced, the 35-year-old will be leaving the club in the summer when his contract expires. The right-back came to Newcastle from Atlético Madrid in January 2022 for 14 million euros and has played 157 games since then – only for Burnley FC (185) in his career.
“After four and a half years, the time has come to leave this great club. This is where I felt most at home. It’s emotional and I’ll really miss it,” said the 54-time England international: “To my teammates: It was a fantastic time with you. I’ll miss you all, but winning a title with you was something very special – the best thing in my career. And to the coach, Eddie Howe, the entire coaching team and the team behind the scenes: A huge thank you. The coach had the confidence – twice – to sign me gave me the chance to represent and captain this great club and, most importantly, we managed to win a title.” Trippier was already active at Burnley under Howe.
With Tripper, Newcastle qualified for the Champions League twice in the last three seasons. In 2025, the veteran also celebrated the League Cup title with the club. It was the first national title for the club in 70 years. What Trippier plans to do in the future is not yet known. With almost 600 professional games and a market value of 2.5 million euros, he is one of the most experienced right-backs to come onto the market for free in the summer.
