Tribute to Pieters at the start of the Dutch National Championships cycling, crowdfunding set up

Before the start of the Dutch National Cycling Championships for women in Westerbork, there was a tribute to Amy Pieters. The Zwanenburg won the national title last year, but fell hard at the end of December. She suffered serious brain damage, which left her in a wheelchair.

A crowdfunding campaign has been set up to pay for the costs of her recovery. The first check for 1000 euros was presented on Saturday afternoon during the tribute to Pieters. A fund has been set up by the team of North Holland, SD Worx, among others.

“We are committed to her. We want to contribute in every way”, SD Worx manager Danny Stam responded to the NOS. “Sometimes there are treatments that are not reimbursed, but may be successful. And insurance is often only reimbursed afterwards.”

Amy Pieters’ father, Peter, is very grateful. “The girls who care about her now say: we have to do something for her, because Amy was always there for us. That’s a very nice gesture.”
