Katharina Schmid is currently feeling like her male ski jumping colleagues. The Allgäu woman is overtaken in the overall World Cup and travels to the home game in Willingen in a sporty state.
Germany’s best ski jumper Katharina Schmid only had reason to celebrate as a noble fan in Zao, Japan. When her teammates Selina Freitag and Agnes Reisch won in the super team, the 28-year-old was in the front row and celebrated the surprise victory. Her own World Cup results remained modest even at the end of the Asian trip. After ranks 16 and 12, the overall leader’s yellow jersey is gone.
“She struggles incredibly with her approach position. We will work and fight to ensure that she gets into a stable position,” said national coach Heinz Kuttin about his most consistent athlete. In the individual on Sunday, Selina Freitag came in eighth (91.5 and 88 meters) and was once again better than the three-time world champion from Planica.
The yellow jersey goes to Slovenia’s Nika Prevc, who finished third in Zao after her win on Friday. Before the atmospheric German home game in Willingen, Prevc is 45 points ahead of Schmid. Jacqueline Seifriedsberger from Austria, who had already won the qualification, took the day’s victory on Sunday. Eirin Maria came second
