A trauma helicopter who wanted to land on Wednesday evening near a serious accident at the Geldropsedijk in Nuenen is shown with a laser pen. As a result, the pilot had to break down the first attempt to land.

“Besides that this is punishable, you have to remember that a trauma helicopter is not just called,” the police said. “Realize what consequences this could have.”

‘Seems toys’
Disguing with a laser of aviation traffic is a life -threatening. The pilot can get blinded and get eye injury. In addition to the laser pins that are used for presentations to identify something remotely, there are also stronger laser pins for sale. They have a range of 10 to 20 kilometers.

“Such a pen looks like toy, but its use can be dangerous,” it describes Aviation Expertise Center from the Public Prosecution Service.

Punishable since 2013
Since 2013 it has been punishable to focus a laser pen on an airplane, helicopter or traffic control tower. Yet it happens regularly. In ten years, the number of reports at the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate fell considerably: from 376 laser sheds in 2014 to 56 disorders in 2024.

Two seriously injured

In the accident in Nuenen for which the trauma helicopter was called, a cyclist and a cyclist were seriously injured and collision. In addition to the helicopter, there were several ambulances to provide assistance.

The wounded were taken to the trauma center in Tilburg. There, victims are treated with very serious injury.
