Transfer market database: Oberliga Süd 1954/55 with FC Bayern’s only relegation

Also available in 1953/54

The Transfermarkt database has been enriched by further milestones. The 1953/54 and 1954/55 seasons of the Oberliga Süd are now available with all detailed information. VfB Stuttgart became champions in the first season mentioned, a year later Kickers Offenbach were at the top, relegating SSV Reutlingen to second place.

The 1954/55 season was particularly special due to the relegation of FC Bayern Munich – the only one the club had to cope with. At that time, they were eleven points behind the non-relegation ranks. The following year, the German record champions finished second in the second division and thus managed to get promoted immediately.

Top scorer this season was Ernst-Otto Meyer from VfR Mannheim with a very strong 36 goals in 30 games this season. The year before, this title had been shared by Helmut Klassendörfer from Kickers Offenbach and Horst Schade from 1. FC Nürnberg, each with 22 goals.
