Transfer coup for Bayer Leverkusen’s footballers: Long-time national football player and five-time German champion Carolin Simon is returning to the Rhineland in the summer.
As the factory club announced on Tuesday, the 33-year-old left-back is moving to the Rhineland after seven years with German champions Bayern Munich and signed a contract until June 30, 2028. Simon had already played for Bayer from 2013 to 2016.
“With her great experience at national and international level, Carolin can become a face of our team,” said Thomas Eichin, Director of Licenses at Bayer. Simon brings “a special winning mentality that will do us a lot of good.”
22 international matches for the DFB women
Simon has won the German championship five times since moving from Olympique Lyon to Munich in the summer of 2019 and has appeared in 14 league games this season. Simon played a total of 22 international matches for the national team from 2016 to 2023.

“I had very good discussions with those responsible, I’m really looking forward to an extremely cool challenge and I’m very happy to be coming back to Leverkusen. I had a great time here back then and since then both the club and I have developed further,” said Simon.
“Magic Left Foot” by Simon
“On the pitch she led the way and created many important moments for us with her proverbial magical left foot. Off the pitch she was able to inspire the entire team with her open nature and humor,” said Bayern director Bianca Rech about the left-back’s departure.
