Trainer Mark de Vries moves from VV Alkmaar to AZ Women

Mark de Vries is the new trainer of the AZ Women. The former footballer has been a trainer of VV Alkmaar for the past two seasons. AZ takes over the license from VV Alkmaar and De Vries is therefore also coming along. The trainer has signed a contract until mid-2024.

AZ already had a women’s team in the past (2007 to 2011), but that stopped at the time due to the financial situation. In that earlier period of AZ, the club became national champion three times. De Vries therefore speaks of a great opportunity. “There really is its own working method here. I am very curious about it, as well as the philosophy within the club.”

Mitchell Meijer has been appointed head of youth academy by AZ. He is already working in the youth academy of the Alkmaarders. De Vries and VV Alkmaar will play against PEC Zwolle tonight from 7.30 pm. That match is at the complex of AFC ’34, while Wijdewormer will be the base next season. The youth (promises, M017 and MO15) will stay in Alkmaar at AFC ’34.
