Trainer Jack de Gier fired after unprecedented defeat

FC Den Bosch immediately says goodbye to trainer Jack de Gier after the historic defeat against PEC Zwolle on Friday evening (13-0). De Gier was supposed to leave after this season, because his contract was not extended, but after the huge defeat at Zwolle, the club and the trainer immediately part ways.

De Gier’s immediate departure was announced by the club via Twitter on Monday morning.

“This is the low point for me, as a trainer and as a player”, De Gier said after the dramatic match. “I have never experienced this, not even with the pupils. From the first minute every ball flew in, there was no stopping us. This is very bad.”

‘close with dignity’
De Gier started his football career in Den Bosch and also played for Cambuur and Go Ahead Eagles, among others. He has been head coach at FC Den Bosch since February 1, 2021.

“I want to end my period at the club in a dignified way,” said De Gier at the beginning of February, when it was announced that his contract with FC Den Bosch was not extended. “I have to respect the decision of the club management to continue with a different trainer in the new season.”
