Trainer Dick Lukkien welcomes a new face at FC Groningen. “The only thing that matters next season is the promotion”

Trainer Dick Lukkien welcomes a new face to the training of FC Groningen. The 32-year-old defender Marvin Peersman will strengthen the ranks.

The Belgian left back annex central defender signed a contract on Monday evening that links him to FC Groningen until the summer of 2026. Peersman comes over from Aris Saloniki. He started his career at KSK Beveren and then played for Royal Antwerp.

In the Netherlands, Peersman played for SC Cambuur and FC Dordrecht. In recent years, he has tried his luck in Israel and Greece, where Peersman became player of the year at PAS Giannina in the 2020-2021 season. He qualified for European football with Aris Saloniki last year.

,,The sporting ambitions of FC Groningen appealed to me so much that I decided to return to the Netherlands”, says Peersman. “I am excited about this new challenge. I still know FC Groningen from my earlier period in the Netherlands. A big club that doesn’t belong in the first division. The only thing that matters next season is the promotion.”

Peersman is known as a solid defender, who is strong in one-on-one duels, has a good pass and is also strong in the head. ,,I also have a winner’s mentality”, says the Belgian. “I want to achieve something in life. That has worked out well so far, because this will be my fourteenth season in professional football. Every year I try to raise the bar a little higher. I will do that again at FC Groningen.”
