Markus Eisenbichler’s end of career is only a few days old. How things will go on for the ex-DSV eagle is still open.
For years, Markus Eisenbichler was one of the top performers of the German ski jumping team. The 2019 world champion ended his sporting career last weekend and was duly celebrated again by his loved ones and teammates in Planica.
What’s going on for “Eisei”? After the end of his active career, he thinks about getting started as a trainer – but he doesn’t want to rush anything. “First of all, I work for the police,” said the 34-year-old of the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. Eisenbichler does not exclude the possible switch to the coaching bench. At the same time, he emphasized that he is still too emotionally on the sport: “I don’t want to rush anything now, maybe a year or two are quite good.”
A trainer job has long been considered a possible perspective for the six -time world champion. It is clear to him: Should he choose, “then I know that I would do it one hundred percent”.
In addition to his single World Cup title, he won a total of five times World Cup gold with the team. At the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, he secured the bronze medal with the team.
In the end, however, it was no longer going smoothly. After a short return to the World Cup, he missed both the four -hill tour and the World Cup in Trondheim. Instead, he followed the competitions “in front of the television, on the tablet or live ticker”, as he said. The manipulation scandal around the Norwegian team hit him strongly. Eisenbichler explained: “That makes me sad and a little angry.” And further: “I would like to jump the Norwegians very well even without this fraud.”
