A car was hit by a train at the Sint-Amandsstraat railway crossing in Pittem, West Flanders, on Friday morning. The Mercedes was abandoned on the tracks. There was initially no trace of the driver, who later turned out to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol. “I didn’t feel much of the collision, but it was still scary,” says Nadja Van Boxel from Lichtervelde, one of the 160 stranded travelers.
