Track cyclists Dorenbos-Abma beat world champions at National Championships

Track cyclists Yanne Dorenbos from Castricum and Elmar Abma took gold on Friday evening in the pairs race during the National Championships in Apeldoorn. The duo surprisingly defeated world champions Yoeri Havik and Jan-Willem van Schip.

Havik and Van Schip became world champions in this event in August and were the big favourites, but could not make it happen. Havik did participate in a competition in Copenhagen on Thursday evening and Van Schip rode the keirin earlier in the evening.

Successful

Dorenbos and Abma were also successful in other aspects earlier this National Championship. Dorenbos won the scratch on Thursday and Abma won the omnium. Dorenbos combines track cycling with road cycling. Next season the North Hollander will ride for the Parkhotel Valkenburg (formerly ABLOC) team.
