Hannu Jortikka has closely followed TPS’s downward spiral.
Hannu Jortikka was asked to hurry when “TPS was at the back of the pack”. Jenni Gästgivar
A coaching legend Hannu Jortikka says straight words about the work of TPS Mertaranta & Saariluoma on the podcast. TPS was 13th in the regular season and missed the playoffs for the first time in 11 years.
– You can’t be a more stupid person if you say that “it didn’t go well, but next year will be better”. Now that tells you quite frankly that there is no sense of where to go with things, Jortikka downloads.
Jortikka, who led TPS to the Finnish championship six times, says that rising from 13th place to the top four in the SM league is “an impossible path”.
Jortikka says that there is not just one explanation for the collapse of TPS. In his opinion, the team’s identity is lost, and he criticizes the club for, among other things, the constant changes of coaches.
– What annoys me the most is the fact that we have had 10 great and great years in the government Erkka Westerlund. The team he represents has given the most final accounts to coaches in the last 10 years in all of Finland, says Jortikka.
Finally, Antero Mertaranta asks Jortik if he has ever been asked to help the Turku club.
– Yes, I’ve been asked once. I was here in Spain, and the TPS was at the very back then. I was asked for a couple for three weeks [TPS:ään]. I thought about it for one night, but I thought that what I’m doing isn’t enough for this.
